Yes, Casselberry again. It was not intentional, but our new restaurant experience for the week had a couple of bumps in the road. Between last minute dog sitting and Saharan dust playing a number on my husbands allergies, we moved this week's New Restaurant Tuesday excursion to Thursday. Unfortunately, the first restaurant we arrived at on Thursday (in Winter Springs) wasn't open, so we just started driving till we found another restaurant we hadn't tried. Thus, we found ourselves back in Casselberry at Alex's Fresh Kitchen.

The Digs
Though the dining area is modest, there is plenty of room between tables and the place does not feel cramped. There are 6 tables in total, most seating 4 people and one seating 6 people. I did not see an outdoor dining area. It is more like a take-out place where you order at the counter and seat yourself as opposed to a full service restaurant. The menus are located at the counter, and the specials are on a chalkboard on the wall.

The Service
When we arrived at the counter, we were appropriately greeted by the staff. Once we decided on our food selections, our order was taken promptly. The staff was responsive without hovering, and our food was delivered to our table in a timely manner.
The Tastebud Delights
Though the menu was relatively limited, especially compared to last week's expansive menu, it does have unique offerings. Signs in the establishment indicated the menu was going to be changing in the future, so perhaps it will be expanded in the process? The specials were not items that appeared on the regular menu, so I got the distinct impression their offerings may regularly change to some extent. There are healthy choices, non-meat and gluten free options, and calorie filled dishes sure to please a variety of tastes. They also have a breakfast section, a kids menu, and a dessert menu. There is a limited selection of bottled/canned drinks, including soda, tea, wine, and beer. If you are up for a can of Cabernet Sauvignon, this may be your place! The items did seem a bit on the pricey side for an order at the counter type of establishment, but what we were served was more on the gourmet side, which helped make up for that.
Unfortunately, I had not saved my appetite for the occasion, so was looking for something light. I chose the BLGT, and my husband ordered Allison's Choice.

BLGT is touted as a fried green tomato sandwich with bacon jam, lettuce, and roasted red pepper aioli on a toasted brioche bun. I know a BLT typically comes with bacon, but since the menu indicated bacon jam, I was quite surprised when the sandwich came with full slices of bacon. Perhaps a comma was missing on the menu? Also, I was expecting a larger amount of fried green tomatoes on the sandwich, but it only had one thin slice that got lost in the mix of all the other items between the bun. Expectations aside, it was an extremely flavorful sandwich. I especially loved the roasted red pepper aioli, which added just the right touch of sweet to the mostly savory sandwich. This item came with fries which were a bit disappointing, as they lacked seasoning and seemed a little soft (I prefer a bit of crisp to my fries).

Allison's Choice is everything the menu said it was and more! This item is a wrap stuffed with slow cooked brisket, gouda cheese, and cheddar mac n cheese. The mac n cheese was the best part of this meal. It was so creamy and cooked just to the right consistency. I could have eaten an entire bowl of just that (and I think I saw it on the kids menu). The brisket was slightly overcooked, but was good overall. My husband requested onion rings instead of fries, which were crispy as expected and not too oily.

The Takeaway
This was a neat little find to stumble upon for our Tuesday-turned-Thursday dining adventure. The food was satisfying and very filling. I want to come back and have an entire bowl of mac n cheese (you can also get it on a burger!!). Though there are some opportunities this restaurant could take advantage of, we walked away quite satisfied.
